Getting Started With FBT

Frequently Bought Together (FBT) allows you to recommend related courses or products during checkout to increase sales and offer more value to your customers. But before you can use FBT, you need to make sure your LearnDash courses are properly linked to their corresponding products in WooCommerce or Easy Digital Downloads (EDD). This ensures that when someone buys a product, they get access to the correct course automatically. Before you can set Frequently Bought Together for your courses, please make sure that LearnDash courses are linked correctly with their corresponding products listing in WooCommerce or Downloads listing in Easy Digital Download(EDD). Follow the steps below to complete this setup and avoid the warning. For WooCommerce Go to Product > All Products > Create A Product. Now in the Product data meta box select product type as course Now in LearnDash Courses multi-select box select only one-course name that wants to link the current product and update that product For Easy Digital Downloads (EDD) Go to Downloads > Downloads > Create a Product. Now in LearnDash Meta box in courses settings select one LearnDash course that you want to be linked with current product
Setting Up Frequently Bought Together Section for a Course The Frequently Bought Together (FBT) section helps you boost sales by recommending additional relevant courses to users based on what is commonly purchased together. By associating related courses with each other, you enhance cross-selling opportunities and improve the learner’s journey. This guide will walk you through the process of setting up FBT for a LearnDash course, including linking related courses and enhancing the upsell display with key course information. Follow the steps below to configure it effectively. Click on LearnDash LMS > Courses > click on the course where you want to set the frequently bought together. In the course edit page you will find a metabox with name Frequetly Bought Together courses. Click inside the metabox and select the list of courses you want to display as Frequetly Bought courses with the current course. There is no limit to the number of courses you can add. Once you have saved your course, you and your customers will be able to see suggested courses associated with the course. In the course edit page, you can now also fill in the Course Description metabox to provide additional information such as skills covered, authors, and course details that will be displayed in the upsell widget on the currently editing course. Give your customers added value by showing them courses frequently purchased together with the one they’re viewing. This not only encourages additional enrollments but also highlights relevant learning paths. Below is an example of how the Frequently Bought Together section appears on the course page once configured.
Bundle other woocommerce product type Beyond just courses, the Frequently Bought Together (FBT) feature allows you to include a wide variety of product types in your bundles—creating powerful upsell opportunities. Whether it’s a physical item like a T-shirt, a digital download like a PDF, or a course itself, FBT enables you to package these together into a compelling offer tailored to your customers’ needs. This flexibility makes it easy to craft custom learning kits, merchandise bundles, or downloadable resources alongside your courses—all in one seamless interface. You can bundle any WooCommerce or Easy Digital Downloads (EDD) product with your LearnDash course, depending on your plugin integration. If FBT is configured to work with WooCommerce, you’ll be able to select WooCommerce products (like shirts or downloadable files) alongside your courses. Similarly, if configured with EDD, EDD products will appear for selection. The image below shows the backend view where a course is bundled with a mix of products like a WooCommerce T-shirt and an EDD downloadable PDF: Once the Frequently Bought Together bundle is configured and saved, the widget will visibly display both the course and the selected products (such as T-shirts, PDFs, or other WooCommerce/EDD items). This integrated view makes it seamless for your customers to review and purchase all recommended items in a single click. The example below illustrates how the FBT section appears to users, combining multiple product types with the course:
Setting Discount Offering discounts on bundled purchases is a proven strategy to boost conversions and average order value. The Frequently Bought Together (FBT) widget for LearnDash allows you to incentivize learners by offering discounts when multiple courses (or products) are purchased together. This article walks you through how to configure and control discounts within the FBT widget, including both Fixed and Percentage discount types. You can configure two types of discounts within the FBT widget: Fixed Discount – A flat amount is deducted from the total price. Percentage Discount – A percentage of the total price is discounted. These options give you the flexibility to create bundles that appeal to different pricing strategies. Below is an example of the discount settings panel where the bundle includes three courses, and discount is configured: Apply Discount : This setting allows you to enable discounting on Frequently Bought Together courses Type of Discount : This setting allows you to choose between discount types whether to apply flat fixed discount or a percent discount Discount Amount : This setting allows you to set the discount amount for fixed discount type Discount Percentage : This setting allows you to set the discount percentage for percentage type Apply discount even if few (at least two) courses from widget are bought together (only available with percentage discount type ) : You have the option to choose whether to offer discount even if few(atleast two) courses from widget are bought together. Here’s how it works Example 1 : If a customer adds a Frequently Bought Together (FBT) bundle to their cart with 5 courses and later removes 3 courses, the discount still applies to the remaining 2 courses. The discount won’t apply if there’s only 1 course left from the FBT bundle. If this setting is disabled, the discount won’t apply even if the customer removes just 1 course from the FBT bundle. In this case, all FBT courses must be purchased together. Example 2: If a customer has already purchased 2 courses from a 5-course FBT bundle, enabling this setting allows the customer to see a discount on the remaining 3 courses. If this setting is disabled, the FBT widget will appear on the product/download and course page without any discount. Please note that this setting only works with percentage discounts and is not available for fixed discounts. For fixed discount types, customers must meet two conditions to avail the discount: Purchase All Courses from FBT Bundle: Customers must add and keep all the courses from the Frequently Bought Together (FBT) bundle in their cart to qualify for the discount. If they remove any single course from the cart, the discount will not apply No Previous Enrollment: Customers must not have previously enrolled in any of the courses within the FBT bundle. If they have previously enrolled in even one course from the FBT bundle, the discount will not apply. However, the FBT widget will still appear on the product/download and course pages without offering any discount. Once your discount settings are applied, the FBT widget on the course or product page will reflect the updated bundle price dynamically—clearly showing the original and discounted totals to the user.
