DPSSW Global Settings
Global Settings
The Discontinued Product Stock Status plugin provides comprehensive global controls that allow store admins to manage how discontinued products behave and appear across the site. These settings help configure product visibility, messaging, pricing display, and automated logic for discontinued items.
Accessing the Global Settings
You can access the General Settings through either of the following paths:
Click Settings directly on the plugin tile: Discontinued Product Stock Status Pro for WooCommerce
Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Discontinued Products tab
This tab contains various configuration options to help you control the discontinued product behavior on the frontend.
Available Settings in the General Tab
Below are the settings provided in the General section, each giving admins powerful control over discontinued product display logic:
Import & Export Discontinued Products
This feature allows you to export the discontinued status of products from one WooCommerce store and import it back into another store. It ensures that products marked as discontinued on the original site retain the same status after migration. This helps maintain consistency during staging-to-live transfers or website rebuilds.
Automatically Mark Variable Product as Discontinued When All Variations Reach Zero Stock
When enabled, the plugin checks variable products and automatically marks the parent product as discontinued if all its variations run out of stock. This prevents customers from visiting product pages where nothing is available to purchase. It also reduces manual effort for store admins managing large inventories with frequent stock changes.
Show Price for Discontinued Products
This setting allows discontinued products to display their original prices on the frontend if enabled. By default, prices are hidden to avoid confusing customers into thinking a product can still be purchased. Showing prices may be useful for comparison or showcasing historical pricing information.
Hide Discontinued Products in WooCommerce Catalog & Search Results
When this option is enabled (default), discontinued products are removed from catalog listings, archives, and WooCommerce search results. This keeps the store focused on only currently available products. If disabled, discontinued items remain visible but clearly labeled as unavailable.
Apply Grayscale Effect on Discontinued Products
This setting adds a grayscale effect to discontinued product images, helping customers visually distinguish products that are no longer available. It makes discontinued products recognizable at a glance on archive pages and shortcode listings. This option only appears when discontinued products are still visible in the catalog.

Customization Options for Discontinued Products Message
Customization Options for Discontinued Products Message
The Discontinued Product Stock Status for WooCommerce plugin allows administrators to customize the message displayed for discontinued products. This feature ensures customers are clearly informed when a product is no longer available, improving transparency and user experience on the store.
There are two ways to configure the discontinued product message:
Global Configuration – via the Global Settings tab
Product-Specific Configuration – from the Discontinued Products menu within the Product Edit page
Global Configuration (Global Settings):
The plugin provides several customization options to help you design and format the global discontinued message that appears across all discontinued products.
A built-in text editor allows you to apply text formatting such as bold, italic, and font styles to match your store’s design.
You can also configure advanced styling options including:
Border style, width, color, and radius
Text color and background color
Alignment and spacing adjustments (if applicable)
Additionally, a Reset Settings button is available to revert all message design changes back to default values if you want to start over.
Once you’ve configured and saved your settings, the global message will automatically be applied and displayed on all discontinued products throughout your WooCommerce store.
Custom Product Message (Per-Product Customization):
Besides the global message, the plugin also allows you to display product-specific discontinued messages.
To enable this feature, check the option Enable Product-Specific Discontinued Message in the global settings. This allows store admins to add unique messages for individual products directly from the product edit screen.
After saving this setting, navigate to the Product Edit page and open the Discontinued Products tab located in the Product Data metabox.
In this section, enable the Discontinued Product checkbox to mark the product as discontinued. Once enabled, a Product Message Type dropdown will appear.
This dropdown allows you to either:
Use the Global Message, or
Choose Product Specific Message to display a custom message for that product only.
When you select Product Specific Message, a text editor (similar to the global one) will appear. You can then style and format your message as needed — for example, highlighting product unavailability, suggesting alternatives, or adding a note like “This product has been discontinued. Check out our new model here.”
After saving the product, the customized message you created will appear on the product’s frontend page, replacing the global message for that specific item.

Revert Product Status
Revert Product Status
The Discontinued Product Stock Status for WooCommerce plugin includes a Revert Setting that automatically changes the stock status of discontinued products when the plugin is uninstalled or deactivated. This ensures that no products remain stuck in the discontinued state once the plugin is removed from the site.
You can access this setting by navigating to:
WooCommerce → Settings → Discontinued Product Stock Status → Revert Tab
How the Revert Setting Works
Within the Revert tab, you’ll find a checkbox option that enables automatic stock status modification for all products marked as discontinued.
When this setting is enabled and saved, the plugin will automatically change the stock status of all discontinued products to “Out of stock” as soon as the plugin is deactivated or deleted from your site.
his feature helps maintain consistency in your WooCommerce store by ensuring that discontinued products do not remain in an undefined or inactive state after the plugin is removed.
Example Scenario
Consider an example product such as “925 Gold | Dangling Drop Hoops”, which has been marked as discontinued in your store.
When the plugin is active, the stock status of this product is shown as “Discontinued.”
If you now uninstall or deactivate the plugin, the system will automatically update the product’s stock status to “Out of stock.”
This ensures the product still appears correctly in WooCommerce with a valid status even after the plugin is removed.
Important Note
Reinstalling or reactivating the plugin does not revert products that were changed to “Out of stock” back to the “Discontinued” status.
This means that once the plugin is removed, all affected products will remain “Out of stock” until manually updated or discontinued again after reinstalling the plugin.

Configure Alternative Products
Configure Alternative Products
The Discontinued Product Stock Status for WooCommerce plugin allows store administrators to display alternative products on the product page when a product has been discontinued.
This feature helps guide customers toward similar or substitute products, maintaining engagement and improving the chances of a sale even when the original product is no longer available.
You can configure these settings from:
Product Edit Page → Product Data Metabox → Discontinued Products Tab
When an admin marks a product as discontinued using the checkbox in the Discontinued Products tab, two additional options become available:
Title for Similar Products Section
Dropdown for Choosing Alternative Products
These options allow you to fully control how the alternative products section appears on the frontend.
Title for Similar Products Section
The “Enter the Heading Text for Similar Products” field allows you to specify a custom heading for the alternative products section displayed on the product page.
This is an optional field — if you leave it blank, the plugin automatically uses a default title such as “You Might be Interested in” for the section.
Using this field, you can customize the heading to align with your store’s tone or branding — for example, “Recommended Alternatives” or “Explore Similar Designs.”
Selecting Alternative Products
The Alternative Products dropdown allows you to select one or more published WooCommerce products to be displayed as substitutes for the discontinued product.
This field lists all available products in your store, and you can select multiple entries to show a curated list of suitable alternatives.
Once you have made your selections and updated the product, these chosen alternatives will appear on the discontinued product’s page in a dedicated section below the message or description.
Frontend Display
After saving the settings, the selected alternative products are shown on the product page under the customized title (if provided).
This section helps customers quickly find similar items to purchase instead of the discontinued one, ensuring a smooth browsing and shopping experience.
